Le Tour

July 16, 2007

It’s been a tough go for the tour for the last few years. Despite Lance Armstrong’s ability to capture the attention of the American sporting viewer, the Tour by and large has been plagued by one central issue: doping. It’s been inescapable. Even Lance’s phenomenal achievement was/is (depending on who you talk to) tainted to some degree by allegations of illegal drug use. Of course the whole ugly mess peaked with Floyd Landis’s positive test for elevated testosterone after his Tour win. I can’t really think of a sport more impacted by the presence of doping allegations than cycling. Even the current state of Baseball seems to pale in comparison to the reactions of cycling fans to the issue of doping. For whatever reasons the average Baseball fan seems to accept the fact that a great number of the game’s stars have been using performance enhancing drugs of some kind at some point in the careers. This acceptance may stem in part from the fact the doping wasn’t actually illegal in Baseball until relatively recently. Cycling however has always been highly vigilant regarding the purity of the sport. All of which brings me to this conclusion: there are good cyclists out there, young cyclists, who are willing to shoulder the responsibility of making the tour a believable clean event again. That is an enormously good thing.

Well my friends exciting days here at Jetset Couriers. After 9 years we’ve finally updated the old site. That thing was so dated that it ran past on Netscape Communicator 1.1. But we’ve now boldly ventured into the world of splashy colors and informative content. It was a leap, but we were willing to take the risk. Doesn’t look too bad does it. Our designer was a fellow named Steve Wyrostok, mountain biker, designer, and all around nice guy. I highly recommend him.

For those of you who are fans of the Golden State Warriors (and you all should be, fools) I’d like to direct you towards this article; regarding the summer league debut of the team’s #1 draft pick italian Marco Bellinelli. What a f-ing line. 37 points!! 5 for 7 from three point!! I know it’s only summer league but people seem to forget that at 21 years old Marco has already played 5 years in the Italian professional leagues. He’s no green behind the ears straight out of college rookie, homes is ready to deliver.

If you’ve called Jetset recently there’s at least a small chance that you’ve talked with Grey Wedeking, wearer of many hats here at Jetset. I bet you didn’t know that he was one kick ass bike messenger in the day. In fact he was so charming, fast, and interesting that a TV crew followed him around. This was, like, 2000. By the way, that’s my voice (Pete Funk) dispatching him. Here’s the video:

More later. Thanks for reading. Thanks for using Jetset Couriers.
